Objective:

The key objectives of the project are to improve the socio-economic status of
the poor through improved natural resource management (NRM) and enhanced
productive physical and social infrastructure. The project aims to reduce
poverty through targeted community based initiatives and to provide support to
off-farm income generation activities. Furthermore, it intended to improve
literacy and skills of rural poor through vocational training especially for
unemployed women. The project had five components that include: a Union Council
Development Fund, Targeted Poverty Alleviation Fund (TPAF), Literacy through
Skill Training, Support to District Line Agencies and Institutional and
Implementation Support. PRSP was contracted to implement the TPAF component of
the project in 100 UCs from the four target districts.
The activities include: the formation of at least 23 COs per UC, implementation
of 10-12 small scale interventions (at USD 3,000 per intervention) in each UC,
provide support to livelihood activities of the poor, business promotion and
enterprise development (off-farm income generation) and other project components
(agriculture, research and skill based literacy training) and ensure
disbursement of Rs. 100 million as micro credit to be provided by PRSP.
